Dawn Star
£60,000

Dawn Star was launched in 1953 at Jack Powles in Wroxham. She was part of their hire fleet for a number of years before passing into private hands being purchased by a Member of Parliament.

The current owner purchased her in September 2021, buying her from renowned Gorleston based photographer Brian Ollington. Dawn Star was the treasured possession of Brian and his wife Sally’s for a number of years.

When the current owner purchased Dawn Star she was powered by an electric engine, which was removed and she was carefully returned to diesel power during 2022.

A R Peachment undertook this work, installing a new Nanni 4.5 diesel at their works in Brundall. And a new fuel tank and controls with the aim of improving overall performance and increased torque and range.

At the same time the elderly gas heating system was removed and a brand new central heating and hot water system installed along with new sanitation pipes which were replaced at the same time.

She was out of the water undercover for 6 weeks over winter 2022 and her hull was checked over and Antifoul and varnish renewed.

At the same time the period lights were kept but concealed LED lighting was added in the saloon, galley and forward head.

Most recently a new wheelhouse roof was constructed. Timber beams made by Alan Lee, boatbuilder, new canvas cover custom made by SmartCover of Stalham. The original hard top, plus fittings, are safely stored at the moorings. The new lightweight roof was created to make solo cruising easier.

Wheelhouse sides drop down on sashes meaning the driving position can be either fully covered or open on one or both sides.

All works on Dawn Star have been carried out on the Norfolk Broads by local builders and engineers.

The Late Alan Lee, the boatbuilder who was in charge of her care, had been a professional builder and maintainer of wooden Broads craft for around 60 years, originally learning his trade at Herbert Woods boatyard.
Additionally electrical/engineering works have been carried out by local craftsman Christopher Trehearn.

Valeting and decorating by Neil Young of NY Boat Valeting.

Dawn Star has for years, and continues to be moored undercover in a private wetshed at Richardson’s yard at Stalham.

She is only coming on to the market with great reluctance as the current owner will be moving too far away to be able to spend much time in Norfolk.
